Produced for Animal Planet and directed by Prime Time Emmy®-winning filmmaker Paula Heredia, Toucan Nation was first released in June of 2016.
This film, presented in association with H/3 Foundation and Humane Society International, chronicles the story of Grecia, a brave toucan in Costa Rica whose abuse prompted a national animal welfare campaign. In addition to showing how the Zooave Animal Refuge Center was able to help Grecia, Toucan Nation follows the fight of school children and a group of animal rights activists in creating a petition for President Luis Guillermo to bring the Animal Welfare bill in front of Congress. Birds of a Feather
Inspired by the novel Birds of a Feather by Dr. Lorin Lindner, this short film details the heartwarming program at the Serenity Park Sanctuary that pairs abandoned, abused, neglected, or relinquished parrots with combat veterans. The shared experiences of trauma allow these two groups to understand each other, and it is through this understanding that healing is able to take place.
